Bad Credit, Eviction, or Criminal Record? Find Help With Your Next Apartment Search
Screening treats a credit score, an eviction and a criminal record in different ways. We work each one on its own and look for communities whose criteria may fit you as you are. That could be an apartment in Plano, a townhome in Sugar Land, or a duplex near Round Rock.
Broken lease from a prior community you owe money to
Eviction filed, granted, or dismissed on record
Misdemeanor or felony on your background check
Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy on your credit report
No credit history yet, or a credit file too thin to score
7 Apartment Locating Services, One for Each Screening Issue
Each service covers a different screening problem. Think TransUnion SmartMove credit checks, LeasingDesk rental history reports and eviction records from justice of the peace courts. Those systems don't follow the same rules, so every issue gets its own community list across all five Texas metros.
Bad Credit Apartment Locating
Low score or collections? Some Texas communities take a risk fee or a guarantor instead of a flat denial. Our search help is free.

Eviction Apartment Locating
For renters with a formal eviction on record. It’s one of the tougher rental history problems to get past.

Broken Lease Apartment Locating
Left a lease early and still owe a balance? A broken lease is not the same as an eviction, and many communities treat it differently.

Criminal Background Apartment Locating
Criminal screening runs separately from credit and rental history, so good credit won't cover a record. We work with renters who have a misdemeanor or felony on record.

Bankruptcy Apartment Locating
A Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 on your credit report doesn't rule you out. Some communities would rather see a discharged bankruptcy than active collections.

No Credit History / First Time Renter Locating
No score often gets denied the same way a low score does. We help renters with a thin credit file or none at all.

Third-Party Guarantor & Cosigner Assistance
If you don't pass screening and don't have a personal cosigner, a guarantor company can cosign the lease for a fee.

Communities pay our referral fee from their advertising budgets. You pay nothing. If you need a guarantor, we can point you to companies like TheGuarantors and OneApp.
How Our Free Apartment Search Works
Tell us your situation
Let us know what's showing up on your screening (credit, eviction, broken lease, criminal, bankruptcy, no history), the metro you want, and your rent range. We don't pull your credit.
We send you a list
Within 24 to 48 hours on weekdays, you get a list of apartments, townhomes and duplexes that may consider situations like yours. Weekend requests most likely hear back Monday. When we have them on file, we note typical risk fees and approval conditions.
You choose where to apply
Look over the shortlist, confirm current rent and fees with each leasing office, and pick where to apply. We stay with you through the search. Approval is always the property’s call.
Before You Apply
Know your options, plan your costs and get ready before you pay application fees.
Been Denied Before? Let’s Look at Your Options.

Frequently Asked Questions About Second-Chance Leasing
Want to go deeper? Our Texas second-chance leasing guides break down credit scores, evictions, broken leases, background checks, and bankruptcy screening step by step.
Do you really not charge anything? +
That's right. Our service is free to you. Apartment communities pay us a referral fee from their advertising budgets when a renter we refer signs a lease.
How do apartments that don't check credit actually work? +
Most apartments do run a credit check. We look for communities whose screening criteria may fit your score and history. Some skip hard cutoffs, some approve with conditions and a risk fee, and some take a guarantor.
Can I get an apartment with a 500 credit score? +
Some communities will consider it, often with a one time risk fee. The property looks at your whole application, so a 500 with no collections reads very differently from a 500 with heavy debt.
What if I have both an eviction and bad credit? +
Options exist, but there aren't many. Only a small group of communities will consider more than one risk factor. Those often want income of 3x to 4x the rent plus a higher risk fee. Every denial costs another application fee, so picking the right places to apply matters most here.
What's the difference between a broken lease and an eviction? +
A broken lease means you moved out early and owe money, with no court involved. An eviction means a landlord took you to court. Plenty of renters have one without the other, and some communities approve a broken lease but not an eviction.
What is a third party guarantor and how much does it cost? +
A guarantor company cosigns your lease for a fee. It's usually 70% to 110% of one month's rent, on top of your deposit and first month's rent. Companies that work with Texas communities include TheGuarantors and OneApp. We can walk you through the total move-in cost. The guarantor company makes its own approval decision.
